Kat Wright, whose voice is both sultry and dynamic, delicate yet powerful; gritty but highly emotive and nuanced, has been described as “a young Bonnie Raitt meets Amy Winehouse”. Some at Roy’s Hall describe her music as “Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds meets Madeleine Peyroux”. Add to that voice enough stage presence to tame lions, and the combination of feline femininity proves immediately enchanting. There’s soul flowing in and out of her rock ‘n’ roll with a serpentine seduction. Some of soul music’s sweet, grand dames belt, shout, seethe, and succumb, while Wright sings gently like a heartache’s apology. It’s funky in spots and beautiful all over. And it hurts a little … like it should.

Opening the show – The Outcrops

The Outcrops have musical roots in rock ‘n’ roll, blues, funk, R&B, and bygone country and jazz legends. Their original music is dug from that same soulful soil and pays homage to artists from BB King and Big Bill Broonzy to Smokey Robinson and Aretha Franklin. The Outrops’ vintage sound is derived from a combo of these influences, limited use of effects and the raw passion that fuels their music. Downbeat is at 8:00PM
