SUMMARY:Darrell Scott - The master singer/songwriter fea. Alex Radus to open
DESCRIPTION:There is an absence of light\, before the light. A simple bare stage in the waning gloaming\, and I can see Darrell make his way to a lone microphone. He is here to shine that light on matters of the heart─the grit\, grease\, gristle\, and most importantly\, the marrow beneath the breastbone. \nAnd what is the path that shapes us as we go along\, those true defining moments without which we would be hollow versions of our current selves? For Darrell\, it was coming from a musical family with a father who had him smitten with guitars by the age of 4\, alongside a brother who played Jerry Reed style as well. From there\, things only ramped up with literature and poetry endeavors while a student at Tufts University\, along with playing his way through life. This would never change. \n \nWhen those hands of his make their way across the strings and fretboard\, there is palpable loss of air in the theater\, as the listeners\, our feet and bodies firmly on the ground\, watch his sonic wings take him upwards in flight\, and realize we are as along for the ride through the skies as he is. Inevitably\, to feel this being channeled\, privy to this shared physical space\, is both heady and inspiring. Small are the number of things in life which allow us to be so deeply immersed and mesmerized by a moment that we are unable to even be aware of the rest of the world humming and whirring away outside. This is Darrell Scott terra firma\, where he takes us\, with these otherworldly gifts. \nThe wordsmithing and craftsmanship of the songs that become timeless─although a lost cause for many who try to write them─ is far from a dying art\, thanks to Darrell’s work. He is more so existing creatively at levels we just don’t fathom anymore. He mines and cultivates the everyday moment\, taking the rote\, menial\, mundane\, and allowing it to be surreal\, ever poignant\, and candidly honest\, lilting\, blooming\, and resonating. The words he fosters allow us to make sense of the world\, what is at stake here\, and our place in it. And ultimately\, Darrell knows the sole truth of life is that love is all that matters\, that we don’t always get it right\, but that’s the instinctive and requisite circuitous allure of things\, why we forever chase it\, and why it is held sacred. \n \nAlex Radus is known as a “sultry crooner” (City Paper) and “master guitarist” (Courier News)\, but his songwriting takes center stage. Known affectionately for giving audiences “genre whiplash”\, Radus pairs whimsical and poignant storytelling with an eclectic mix of Americana\, swing\, blues\, folk and more. Radus has toured the country extensively\, recorded multiple albums\, and earned awards\, nominations and critical acclaim for his songwriting\, recording and performing. His music has been featured on radio\, TV and film\, including Adolescence\, directed by Ashley Avis (Black Beauty). Radus’ discography includes Tributaries–Recorded Live at Godfrey Daniels (“gripping lyricism…impeccable grace and finesse” – Underground Music Collective); Jewels & Tinware (“creative\, original…perfect” – Steel Notes Magazine) and Love Me Like You Hate Me (“impressive…eerie\, intense and wonderful” – Morning Call). \n\n \n

SUMMARY:Uncle Floyd - New Jersey's Comedy Legend On Stage at Roy's Hall
DESCRIPTION:A seasoned comedian\, a talented entertainer\, and a gifted piano player\, Floyd Vivino has been entertaining audiences for more than 40 years. However\, Floyd is a lot younger than people may think\, having started in show-biz as a teenager in 1968.Known primarily for his influential comedy/variety television program The Uncle Floyd Show\, which ran more than 4\,000 original episodes from 1974 to 1998\, Floyd “Uncle Floyd” Vivino is a genuine show-biz veteran. \n \nToday Floyd performs as a stand-up comedian\, emcee\, opening act\, and musical entertainer on stage and in nightclubs in Atlantic City\, Las Vegas\, and all over the New York/New Jersey area\, in addition to appearances at all sorts of public events and private functions. In addition\, Floyd hosts Garage Sale Music\, a weekly radio show on WVOX and WFDU\, as well as taking the occasional film role. Always in demand\, Floyd is booked well in advance and plays hundreds of dates each year. \n \nFloyd’s greatest talent is his versatility. His comedy transcends all age groups\, ethnicities and demographics. One night he’ll be joking in Italian for an Italian-American audience\, the next night he’ll play to a late-night crowd at a rowdy night spot\, then an afternoon dinner theater production for seniors. There is no audience Floyd can’t entertain. As the top banana in Uncle Floyd’s Last Authentic American Traveling Burlesque Show\, Floyd recreated the lost American art form (for adults only) that had all but disappeared from theaters today. Floyd also headlined a sister show called The Last American Variety Show starring Uncle Floyd and His Friends\, an old-fashioned vaudeville revue that’s fun for the whole family. \nThe legendary Uncle Floyd Show ran for 24 years on local television and in syndication\, and featured Floyd’s trademark style of honky-tonk piano\, as well as his amazing arsenal of comedy characters. Among the hundreds of guests on the TV show are such popular performers such as The Ramones\, Bon Jovi\, Chubby Checker\, Monty Python\, Davy Jones and Peter Tork of The Monkees\, Cyndi Lauper\, Eddie Money\, David Johansen\, The Smithereens\, Jan & Dean\, Squeeze\, Dave Edmunds\, Rick Derringer\, Benny Bell and Tiny Tim. Fans of the TV show included John Lennon and David Bowie (who wrote a song about Floyd called “Slip Away” on a recent CD). \nIn films\, Floyd has acted alongside stars including Robin Williams\, Paul Simon\, Matt Dillon\, Dudley Moore and Daryl Hannah. On network television\, Floyd had roles on Law & Order and Cosby\, among many others. Mercury Records released an Uncle Floyd record album\, in addition to a number of singles Floyd released on his own including “Deep In The Heart of Jersey” by his alter ego Cowboy Charlie\, a favorite on the Dr. Demento radio show. Steeped in the traditions of Tin Pan Alley\, Floyd is able to perform literally hundreds of pop songs and novelties from the early part of the Twentieth Century. Floyd set a Guinness World’s Record for Continuous Piano Playing by playing (and singing!) some 700 songs in a 24-hour period in front of a live audience

SUMMARY:YARN is back at Roy's Hall for only NJ tour stop
DESCRIPTION:YARN – Indeed\, the accolades have piled up quickly along the way. They have landed on the Grammy ballot 4 times\, garnered nods from the Americana Music Association\, placed top five on both Radio and Records and the AMA album charts\, garnered airplay on Sirius FM\, iTunes\, Pandora\, CNN\, and CMT\, and also accorded the “Download of the Day” from Rolling Stone. Shine the Light On found shared song writing credits with John Oates (the Oates of Hall & Oates fame)\, and when audiences expressed their admiration\, it brought the band a populist following of diehard devotees\, popularly known as “the Yarmy.”\n \nAs odd as that might seem\, it’s proof positive that the Brooklyn and Raleigh based band – – which is currently comprised of Blake Christiana\, Rod Hohl\, bassist Rick Bugel\, and drummer Robert Bonhomme — have made their mark\, and in dealing with their emotions\, scars and circumstances\, they find themselves in a position to share those experiences with others who have juggled similar sentiments.\nThen again\, one needn’t take them at their word. When one unravels Yarn\, it’s best to add one’s own interpretations.

SUMMARY:Karan Casey Trio in Concert - Irish vocalist nonpareil
DESCRIPTION:Legendary Irish folk singer Karan Casey has released 11albums to date. She has toured extensively throughout North America\, Europe and Japan\, singing songs charged with a sense of social responsibility in a career spanning over 25 years. Karan is joined by Sheila Falls on fiddle\, and guitarist Matt Heaton. The evocative trio have toured together for several years and this show premieres new material from Karan’s new album “Nine Apples of Gold” (to be released in January 2023) as well as favourites from Karan’s back repertoire. The songs draw inspiration from a wide range of sources from the personal to the historical and political\, touching on themes of family\, loss\, love\, the empowerment of women and Irish revolutionary struggle. \nAs a part of the Irish folk group Solas\, Karan Casey has defined herself as one of Ireland’s best\, joining the distinguished ranks of fellow female singer/songwriters such as Clannad’s Maire Brennan\, Sharon Shannon\, and Karen Matheson of Capercaillie. The Wall Street Journal’s music writer Earle Hitchner praises her singing\, harking that Casey’s voice “is one of the true glories of Irish music today.”\n\nKaran Casey grew up singing with her family while growing up in the southeastern side of Waterford in the Irish village of Ballyduff Lower. As a child\, she sang in the church choir\, but turned to the piano as a young adult. While studying voice and piano at the University College Dublin and later at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in the late ’80s\, Casey was singing Ella Fitzgerald standards in a jazz duo at a local pub in Dublin. She also started her own Irish group called Dorothy. She credits jazz music for allowing her to wholly approach and understand her tact to singing traditional Irish folklore. Dublin\, however\, was not the place for her to continue her exploration.\n\nIn 1993\, Karan Casey emigrated to New York to find herself studying music once again as a jazz music major at Brooklyn’s Long Island Univesity. Around this time\, she rediscovered her fondness for Irish traditional music and made the rounds singing in locals bars in Manhattan. Such passion led Casey to briefly play with the New York-based band Atlantic Bridge\, but by the end of 1994\, Casey joined Seamus Egan\, John Doyle\, John Williams\, and Winifred Horan to form Solas. The band quickly received critical acclaim\, recording three albums with Shanachie\, which coincided winning the NAIRD awards with each release. Solas also found themselves touring American\, Europe\, and Japan\, playing alongside greats such as Bela Fleck\, the Chieftains\, Iris DeMent\, and Donal Lunny.\nAll in the midst of this\, Karan Casey still found time to record a solo album called Songlines\, which was released in 1997. Winds Begin to Sing followed in early 2001. Casey eventually decided to go solo full time in order to better control her touring schedule\, which in turn would allow her to spend more time with her young family. After playing shows in North America and Europe (and appearing as a frequent guest on Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion)\, Casey briefly returned to Solas for the group’s 2006 release Reunion. \n“…Karan Casey has no vocal peer.”~ IRISH ECHO \nhttps://blairstownliveartsinc.thundertix.com/events/204237

SUMMARY:"King" Solomon Hicks ~ Harlem's young blues ambassador w/The Outcrops
DESCRIPTION:“King” Solomon Hicks\, the 26-year-old guitar phenom from Harlem\, New York is an American guitarist\, vocalist\, songwriter and composer. He has invested in music from a very young age and started playing guitar at just six years old. Growing up in Harlem he was constantly surrounded by music. Hicks witnessed performances that made a significant impact on his ambitions as a musician and he says: “When you’re around good musicians\, it gives you that spark . “Being around those types of musicians also taught me to NOT be the fastest guitar player. I wanted to be the one who knew the most riffs and drew on a lot of knowledge so I could play anything\, and with anyone.” \n\n\n\n\n \nHicks began building a reputation on the scene that rapidly spread outside of the New York area — while his home turf expanded to venues such as the Iridium\, the Red Rooster\, Ashford and Simpson’s Sugar Bar\, Terra Blues and more. After high school Hicks began playing in Europe\, opening for Jeff Beck and Ringo Starr\, playing festivals in Spain and France\, as well as at the Cotton Club in Tokyo\, and being booked on KISS Kruise V in 2017 and on this year’s Joe Bonamassa Blues Alive at Sea Cruise. He’s shared stages with the likes of Tony Bennett\, Beth Hart\, George Thorogood & the Destroyers\, Mavis Staples\, Paul Shaffer and others. \nFrom the woods of Northern New Jersey\, The Outcrops present original blues-infused rock’n’roll. The four-piece band was formed in 2016 by lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Cassidy Rain and lead guitarist Bryan Schroeder. \n \nAs a singer\, Cassidy has been compared to Bonnie Raitt and Susan Tedeschi\, but her raw sensibility as front person could as easily bring comparisons to blues legends like Howlin’ Wolf or Muddy Waters. Bryan’s playing falls somewhere between Duane Allman and Derek Trucks\, as many fans have pointed out. Bryan has also noted Jerry Garcia as a major influence. His long flowing lead lines throughout songs intertwine with Cassidy’s vocal phrases to create a very melodic sound that sets the tone for The Outcrops. The rhythm section of the band includes Jason Casanovas on bass and Max Adler on drums. Both Max and Jason bring a funk and soul feel that melds beautifully with Cassidy and Bryan\, creating their band tag: Rock & Roll\, Blues & Soul. \nJoin us in welcoming “King” Solomon Hicks and The Outcrops to Roy’s Hall. \n

Over the years Peter has performed as both a touring musician and as a member of several Connecticut orchestral and theater programs including the Hartford Symphony. He is currently the principal percussionist with the Norwalk Symphony. Peter is a revered and accomplished musician and teacher\, with a nuanced and versatile drumming style. His versatility is a perfect fit for ATS’s diverse musical canon. \nJoe Meo – Tenor and Soprano Sax\, Flute\, Clarinet\, Vocals \nJoe began playing music at the age of 8. His first instrument\, a clarinet\, fell from a car and landed in his front yard. He played in musical groups in school but his main experience came from plying in a student led community big band\, learning saxophone\, flute and guitar along the way. He has since played in pit orchestras for Broadway shows\, as well as in rock\, funk and jazz bands\, and as a session player with distinguished artists Johnny Winter\, Julie Budd\, Johnny Mathis\, Billy Vera\, the Temptations\, the Four Tops and the Pointer Sisters. Joe is the newest member of ATS 2.0\, adding virtuoso solos and supporting lines that compliment Dodie’s compelling lead guitar work. And he has also been known to step out and sing lead on a song or two. \nhttps://blairstownliveartsinc.thundertix.com/events/198100

SUMMARY:An Evening with Eric Andersen - The Folk Legend in Concert
DESCRIPTION:Eric Andersen has maintained a career as a folk-based singer/songwriter since the 1960s. In contrast to such peers as Tom Paxton and Phil Ochs\, Andersen’s writing has had a romantic/philosophical/poetic bent for the most part\, rather than a socially conscious one\, though one of his best-known songs\, “Thirsty Boots\,” is about the Freedom Riders in the early ’60s. (The song has been recorded by Judy Collins and others.) \n \n \nWatch ‘The Songpoet’ on PBS – The Eric Andersen Story\n \nToday Is the Highway\nAfter emerging from the Northeast folk-club circuit\, Andersen began to record in 1965 with Today Is the Highway. His second album\, ‘Bout Changes & Things\, contained some of his most accomplished writing\, including the highly poetic “Violets of Dawn\,” “Thirsty Boots\,” and “I Shall Go Unbounded.” All were sung in Andersen’s flexible tenor (he shaded toward a baritone later) backed by rapid\, intricate fingerpicking. In the late ’60s and early ’70s\, Andersen experimented with country\, pop\, and rock music\, settling on an amalgamation by the time of his masterpiece Blue River in 1972. This was also his most commercially successful album\, but Andersen\, like friends Leonard Cohen and Townes Van Zandt\, was always too serious-minded for the mainstream. In the ’70s and ’80s\, he recorded sporadically while playing folk clubs around the U.S. and especially in Europe\, where he took up residence. His later material\, including 1989’s Ghosts Upon the Road\, recalls his work in the ’60s as it ruefully reflects on that decade. The ’90s saw Andersen collaborate with friends like Rick Danko and Jonas Fjeld on Danko/Fjeld/Andersen\, as well as release a solo album\, 1998’s Memory of the Future; Andersen also oversaw the release of Stages: The Lost Album\, and a 1999 reissue of Blue River. You Can’t Relive the Past. Beat Avenue\, from 2003\, was an ambitious double-CD while 2004’s The Street Was Always There was a nostalgic look back at the music of the New York Greenwich Village scene of the early to mid-’60s. 2005’s Waves was another album of covers\, but with broader material. Andersen released Blue Rain\, his first live album\, in May 2007. That same year\, the compilation So Much on My Mind was issued. The set drew on both catalog tracks and live performances and was issued on Columbia\, Arista\, and Warner Brothers. \n \nAndersen continued to tour and take part in significant cultural events. In 2008\, he performed at the Andy Warhol Week Celebration at the Gershwin Hotel (Debbie Harry played the same evening) and received an “Andy” award — other recipients included Lou Reed\, Ultra Violet\, Billy Name\, and Holly Woodlawn. The following year he performed on the BBC program Greenwich Village Revisited\, hosted by Billy Bragg; other guests included Carolyn Hester\, Roger McGuinn\, and Judy Collins. Andersen also took part in the international celebrations centering around the 50th anniversary of the publication of William Burroughs’ Naked Lunch. He contributed an essay entitled “The Danger Zone” to the volume Naked Lunch @ 50: The Anniversary Essays\, edited by Oliver Harris and Ian MacFadyen and published by the Southern Illinois University Press. \nThe Cologne Concert\nIn 2011\, Andersen issued his second live offering\, The Cologne Concert\, through Meyer Records. Along with deep catalog material\, the set offered a pair of new songs in “The Dance of Love and Death” and “Sinking Deeper Into You.” In May of 2012 he became a member of the newly created European Beat Studies Network under the auspices of William S. Burroughs scholar Oliver Harris. That fall\, he was commissioned by Catherine Camus to write original material for the centennial celebration of her father Albert Camus’ 100th birthday in Aix en Provence\, France. Andersen delivered a song cycle entitled The Shadow and Light of Albert Camus\, recorded and released through Meyer in 2014. \nMingle With the Universe: The Worlds of Lord Byron\nOn September 3\, 2015 Andersen took part in a V.I.P. charity concert in Grand Hall at Newstead Abbey Park\, the ancestral home of the poet Lord Byron in Ravenshead\, Nottingham\, U.K. (in Sherwood Forest). Andersen played music he set to Byron’s verse and offered entirely new compositions in the poet’s rhyme style. This project was written and developed over the previous two years. Andersen later recorded the songs and issued them as Mingle with the Universe: The Worlds of Lord Byron in the spring of 2017. \nArtist Biography by William Ruhlmann – Allmusic.com!
