SUMMARY:The Furious Bongos ~ complex\, diverse\, comical\, satirical\, racy ~ Pure ZAPPA !!
DESCRIPTION:The Furious Bongos are a Zappa project featuring a diverse lineup of seasoned musicians who have played alongside heavyweights like Frank (hizownself) Zappa\, BB King\, Mick Fleetwood\, Vinnie Colaiuta\, Googoosh\, Dweezil Zappa\, LA Philharmonic\, Arthur Barrow\, Munich Philharmonic\, Popa Chubby\, Yo Yo Ma\, Pinetop Perkins\, Chicago Lyric Opera\, blah blah blah….you get the idea. \n \nLegendary 1st call drummer Chad Wackerman\, a 7-year Zappa band veteran\, will power the rhythm section on this tour.\n\n \nThis isn’t strictly a “tribute” band doing a note-for-note rendition of Song X from Album Y while staring at their shoes. The result is a wildly entertaining show that pays respect to Frank Zappa’s legacy but is still new and different and dangerous\, with lots of eyebrows.\nKinda like Frank.

SUMMARY:RYANHOOD - International Acoustic Music Awards ‘Best Group/Duo’
DESCRIPTION:Named ‘Best Group/Duo’ in the International Acoustic Music Awards\, acoustic-duo Ryanhood got their first break as street-performers at Boston’s Quincy Market. It was there that they were spotted by a college booking agent and thrust into the college touring scene as “one of the most requested acts by college buyers all across the country.” They’ve since gone on to perform more than a thousand shows in 47 U.S. states over the past decade\, and have shared stages with Jason Mraz\, Matt Nathanson\, Train\, and many more. \nAnd\, their star is still on the rise. Ryanhood was recently named the “Discovery of the Year” by John Platt at WFUV in New York City\, and was a featured act at Australia’s National Folk Festival \n“Acoustic fusion aces Ryanhood offer an all-natural shot in the arm with Under the Leaves…Mixing bluegrass speed\, jam-ready melodies\, and pop-rocking forward momentum\, two guys with guitars challenge decades of easy-listening ‘rules.’” — Nashville Lifestyle\n \nTheir latest album Under the Leaves\, sees the pair’s lead guitarist Ryan David Green stepping into the role of sole producer\, weaving a tapestry of lush strings and rich harmonies. The album\, like their shows\, is driven by strong acoustic guitar performances and is at turns energetic\, hopeful\, and quietly moving—a musical invitation to breathe\, and to soak in a river of melodies and harmonic hooks. . \nCameron Hood\, the band’s primary lyricist\, has waded into those musical rivers with dream-like verses about seeds and forests\, breath and wind\, and the cycles and seasons that frame our lives. Throughout the album’s songs\, a question is asked: How do we create meaningful and lasting change in a world filled with division and turmoil? The offer on Under the Leaves is to slow down and face the one thing we have the power to change – ourselves – as the duo sings on the album’s second track\, “the only revolution is the one within.” \n \nGreen and Hood currently reside in their hometown of Tucson\, Arizona\, where they have won more than a dozen Tucson Music Awards including “Best Folk Band” and “Best Rock Band” (you can decide for yourself which is most accurate).

SUMMARY:Legendary "Song Poet" Eric Andersen returns to Roy's Hall
DESCRIPTION:Legendary “Song Poet” Eric Andersen returns to Roy’s Hall\nERIC ANDERSEN’S voice\, songs\, guitar and piano playing created a career that has spanned over 45 years. He has recorded 25 albums of original songs\, and made numerous tours of North America\, Europe\, and Japan. His songs have been recorded and performed by world renown artists such as Ricky Nelson\, Judy Collins\, Sandy Denny\, Fairport Convention\, The Kingston Trio\, Peter Paul and Mary\, Linda Ronstadt\, Johnny Cash\, The Grateful Dead\, Linda Thompson\, Mary Chapin Carpenter\, and countless others. \n \nEric is widely regarded as one of the most poetic songwriters that sprang from the Greenwich Village folk scene of the 1960’s. As a musician\, he defies categorization. His artful mélange of love\, despair\, hope and stirred memory has earned him a passionate international following and the respect and admiration of artists ranging from Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen to Lou Reed and Wyclef Jean. A recent documentary film\, The Songpoet \, offers a look into the mind\, soul and creative process of this multifaceted\, complex and singularly driven artist whose early career saw great expectations waylaid by misfortune. \n \nThe Songpoet Official Trailer from Paul Lamont on Vimeo. \nSong poet\, Eric Andersen entertains and captivates audiences globally. On stage\, he moves gracefully from harmonica and guitar (acoustic and electric) to piano/keyboards while weaving tales of the past\, anecdotes of the road\, and sometimes hints of explanation of his song poems. \n“Andersen is the most elegant of singers. He is powered by the singular mix of irony and high romanticism that fuels his classic work.” `~ Paul Evans\, Rolling Stone Magazine

SUMMARY:Vince Herman of Leftover Salmon w/ opening set by Airshow
DESCRIPTION:  \nVince Herman with special guest Tim Carbone of Railroad Earth\nBack in 1985\, Vince Herman left his native West Virginia for the Rocky Mountains in search of that truth. It wasn’t long after he arrived in Colorado when Herman wandered into the Boulder’s now-defunct Walrus Saloon and serendipitously crossed paths with multi-instrumentalist Drew Emmitt. The duo formed Leftover Salmon in 1989. \nWhen the pandemic swept across America in 2020\, Vince Herman bought an RV and hit the road. His goal was to remain under the radar in his vehicular bubble\, on a solo excursion to rediscover the country — at his own pace\, and in his own way. \n\n \n\n\nHerman points to the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s seminal 1972 record Will the Circle be Unbroken as an influence for what he’s ultimately aiming to do in the country music sphere with his new album “Enjoy The Ride”. “That album was [Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s] attempt to bring hippies to country music back in the 1970s\,” Herman says. “And I’d like to further that along\, because country music has so much to offer\, as far as storytelling and that sort of thing. The jam band culture and the country music culture seem miles and miles apart\,” he continues. “I think it’s time to bring that together.” \n \nAirshow is a high-flying jamband that’s sure to soar to the top of every music fans priority list this year.Having originally formed in Reading\, PA\, childhood best friends\, Steve Gallagher (guitar/vocals) and Cody Chelius (mandolin/vocals)\, spread their wings and migrated to Nashville\, TN in 2015. There they met Bill Baker (bass/vocals) and John Rodrigue (drums/vocals) and immediately started their ascension towards the top of Nashville’s jamband scene.

SUMMARY:The Joe Cirotti Trio official album release show
DESCRIPTION:The Joe Cirotti Trio is a well-oiled string band from the shadows of Northwest Jersey’s Appalachian ridge. Friends of Roy’s Hall are no strangers to this abundantly talented aggregation\, as members of the Trio have performed at Roy’s in various combinations and permutations numerous times over the years. In 2015\, Joe Cirotti\, Mike Alexander\, and Pete Lister’s respective multi instrumentalist upbringings fused with a collective passion for the roots of American folk\, country\, and bluegrass music. In this way the trio’s bond is rooted in proximity\, strengthened by a blue-collar passion for picking\, and buoyed by their shared propensity for cigarettes and whiskey. Timmy Coyle has filled in for Mike since 2021 on multiple instruments\, and they now occasionally play in tandem when the band plays as a quartet. The group also appears in various quartet and quintet line-ups\, incorporating percussion or drums into the arrangements. Expect an extraordinary evening of the finest acoustic music mastery NJ has to offer from this band that has national recognition looming just around the bend. \n  \nEnjoy this live-stream video broadcast of the Trio from Roy’s Hall at the height of the pandemic. Joe’s guitar gets louder in the mix as the show progresses.

SUMMARY:Dustin Douglas & The Electric Gentlemen~True blues spirit meets heavy rock n’ roll
DESCRIPTION:DUSTIN DOUGLAS & THE ELECTRIC GENTLEMEN’s dynamic\, heavy\, swagger- injected\, sexy & dirty\, blues-influenced rock n’ roll brings vintage sound and vibe to modern ears. The band’s much-anticipated third album Black Leather Blues via Mo Mojo Records underlines this and much more. \n \nFronted by the transcendent lead guitarist/singer/songwriter Dustin Douglas\, The Electric Gentlemen—rounded out by drummer Tommy Smallcomb and bassist Matt “The Dane” Gabriel—command the stage with virtuosic musicianship and classic-rock spirit mixed with punk rock attitude that leaves even the most discerning music fans falling in love with their style at the end of any live show. \n \nRock and Blues Muse describes Dustin’s music as “a soul-cleansing shot of progressive blues/rock minimalism that’s as much about the space between the notes as the notes themselves. Dustin Douglas is a first-class guitar shaman\, weaving together spellbinding riffs and solos that transport listeners directly into his world.” The publication added: “His vocals are strident and strong\, expressing the hard blues inherent in 21st Century life.” Pennsylvania’s Dustin Douglas & The Electric Gentlemen put the pedal to the floor\, asking for no mercy with heavy riffs\, huge hooks and memorable\, blues-inspired rock n’ roll rhythms that takes listeners on a familiar yet fresh musical journey.

SUMMARY:The Alison Brown Quintet - The progressive banjo master in concert
DESCRIPTION:Alison Brown doesn’t play the banjo.\nAlison Brown plays music on the banjo. \nShe’s acclaimed as one of today’s finest progressive banjo players\, but you rarely find her in a conventional bluegrass setting. Instead\, she’s known for leading an ensemble that successfully marries a broad array of roots-influenced music: folk\, jazz\, Celtic and Latin. \n \n \nAcoustic instrumental music has never been so beautifully represented as by Alison Brown.  As one of the most multi-faceted minds on today’s roots music scene\, every one of Alison’s endeavors is marked by innovation\, intelligence\, and grace. As a banjo player\, she throws out the textbook when it comes playing the banjo and the result is a sound that blends the rugged drive of bluegrass with the harmonic sensibilities of jazz\, earning vast acclaim and a GRAMMY award in the process.

SUMMARY:House Of Hamill "... on the edge of tradition and innovation"
DESCRIPTION:House Of Hamill\n\n\n\n“Great hooks\, eclectic arrangements and tuneful melodies that will certainly reach listeners from all walks of life.” – Jeff Goble— Folk N Rock\nHouse of Hamill owes its existence – almost entirely – to a series of cancelled flights. Rose Baldino and Brian Buchanan first found themselves onstage together at the 2014 Folk Alliance International conference in Kansas City. Rose’s band Burning Bridget Cleary was scheduled to perform\, but inclement weather prevented two of her bandmates from flying. Desperate to salvage the showcase\, Rose approached Brian\, who she knew fronted Canadian celtic rock band Enter the Haggis. She thrust a guitar into Brian’s hands\, pulled him onstage\, and the two just clicked. \n \nFour years and hundreds of shows later\, the duo was booked to play a closing slot at a Colorado festival\, so they hired a bass player and drummer to fill out their sound. By the oddest of coincidences\, their hired bandmates’ flights were canceled the day of the show. A frantic Facebook post introduced Brian and Rose to local musician Caroline Browning\, who joined them on bass for the weekend. Once again\, the chemistry was undeniable\, and House of Hamill became a trio. \n \nToday\, Pennsylvania-based House of Hamill is a fixture on festival stages across the US\, and have shared their music and stories on the country’s premier folk stages. Their version of “Pound a Week Rise” rose to #1 on the US Folk DJ charts\, and the video for their all-violin cover of “Sweet Child O’ Mine” amassed over 16 million views on Facebook\, where it was shared over 400\,000 times. Their latest release\, “Folk Hero\,” captures perfectly the frenetic energy and eclecticism of their always engaging live show. A lively collection of original instrumentals\, reimagined folk ballads\, and new songs that showcase the trio’s versatility\, “Folk Hero” is the third House of Hamill album to be funded entirely by their fans. \n \nWhether they’re ripping through a set of original jigs and reels\, adding lush three-part harmonies into traditional folk ballads\, or cracking up an audience with stories from the road\, House of Hamill puts on a show that captivates audiences from the very first note.

SUMMARY:Chris Smither in Concert - The folk/blues legend returns to Roy's
DESCRIPTION:Having distilled his own signature sound of blues and folk for over 50 years\, Chris Smither is truly an American original. A profound songwriter\, Chris continues to draw deeply from the blues\, American folk music\, modern poets and philosophers. From his early days as the New Orleans transplant in the Boston folk scene\, through his wilderness years\, to his reemergence in the 1990s as one of America’s most distinctive acoustic performers\, Chris Smither continues to hone his distinctive sound. He has always traveled his own road and stayed true to his musical vision. He may be best known for writing “Love You Like A Man” which Bonnie Raitt and\, more recently\, jazz great Diana Krall have covered. His music has been covered by numerous artists and featured in soundtrack albums\, independent film\, television\, and commercials. Reviewers continue to praise his dazzling guitar work\, gravelly voice and songwriting. The New York Times: “With a weary\, well-traveled voice and a serenely intricate finger-picking style\, Mr. Smither turns the blues into songs that accept hard-won lessons and try to make peace with fate.” \n \nMore From the Levee (2020 Signature Sounds) is a masterwork and companion release to the celebrated double-CD 50-year career retrospective Still On the Levee that came out in 2014.  It sports the unmistakable guitar sound Chris has made his own meshed with spare\, brilliant songs\, delivered in a bone-wise\, hard-won voice. \n \n“Smither is an American original\, a product of the musical melting pot\, and one of the absolute best singer-songwriters in the world.” ~ ASSOCIATED PRESS \n“Bathed in the flickering glow of passing headlights and neon bar signs\, Smither’s roots are as blue as they come. There is plenty of misty Louisiana and Lightnin’ Hopkins in Smither’s weathered singing and unhurried picking. So fine.” ~ ROLLING STONE \n“With a weary\, well-traveled voice and a serenely intricate finger-picking style\, Mr. Smither turns the blues into songs that accept hard-won lessons and try to make peace with fate.” ~ NEW YORK TIMES

SUMMARY:Katie Henry Band with special guest Dustin Douglas
DESCRIPTION:Songwriter and New Jersey native Katie Henry might have started out banging on doors\, braving New York’s blues clubs\, playing piano until her fingers bled\, and winning over the city one show at a time. But lately\, the multi-instrumentalist has raced through career milestones at a rocket pace. \n \nWith fiery guitar chops and natural charisma\, she was soon a New York City jam scene favorite. Those who were there\, remember songs of many genres\, blues\, rock\, R&B\, funk\, pop\, soul\, and country\, and her stage presence evoked Bonnie Raitt and Janis Joplin at their most magnetic. \n \nWarming the stage for Katie is blues-rocker Dustin Douglas\, performing solo\, prefacing his full-band appearance at Roy’s Hall on June 8th with The Electric Gentlemen.

SUMMARY:James McMurtry - Texas' Master Storyteller **SOLD OUT**
DESCRIPTION:James McMurtry tours year-round and consistently throws down unparalleled powerhouse performances. His fourth appearance at Roy’s Hall will feature songs from his newest “New West” release\, “The Horses and The Hounds”\, as well as favorites from across his broad and universally acclaimed discography. \n \n \nThe son of one of America’s most celebrated novelists\, James McMurtry followed the family’s tradition: he’s a master storyteller who relates his tales in verse and music. Part of the Texas singer/songwriter community\, McMurtry has a gift for character studies\, documenting lives not in perfect balance\, and offering political commentary on how the choices of the powerful impact the lives of ordinary folks. McMurtry’s vocals are dour and plainspoken\, but give eloquent voice to the lives of his protagonists\, and his artfully unadorned lyrics are often full of warmth and humanity\, even in narratives full of chaos. McMurtry made a celebrated debut with 1989’s Too Long in the Wasteland\, he hit a creative stride with 2005’s Childish Things and 2008’s Just Us Kids\, and on 2021’s The Horses and the Hounds\, the performances and production were every bit as compelling as McMurtry’s songs. \n“The simple fact is that James McMurtry may be the truest\, fiercest songwriter of his generation…”\nStephen King | Entertainment Weekly\n \n“BettySoo may well have the most gorgeous voice in Texas …if not in all contemporary folk – its purity and strength can be downright devastating.” – ACOUSTIC GUITAR MAGAZINE \nRaised outside Houston by first-generation Korean immigrant parents\, BettySoo grew up listening to the Great American songbook and country radio.  Older sisters led her to the world of singer/songwriters\, and nights spent at The Cactus Café and Hole In The Wall turned her on to the legacy of Texas song. \n \nBettySoo tours nonstop\, these days either as a solo headliner or as dedicated support for James McMurtry and Chris Smither. Along with her agile guitar playing\, her intelligent\, tightly-constructed lyrics and captivating melodies keep audiences entranced\, and if you’re lucky\, you’ll also find her onstage demonstrating her other super-power when she is singing harmonies with various luminaries.

SUMMARY:The Jimmy Vivino Band ~ Conan O'Brien's long-time band leader rocks Roy's Hall
DESCRIPTION:Jimmy Vivino (aka Jimmy V) has always considered himself “a blues man with a job”. Although best known for serving 26 years as Conan O’Brien’s musical director\, guitarist and bandleader\, his experience in the music business predates that by 20 plus years. \n \nJimmy V has produced\, led bands and recorded with a countless number rock and roll and blues artists for five decades including the likes of Hubert Sumlin\, Warren Haynes\, Bob Weir\, Keith Richards\, Elvis Costello\, Johnnie Johnson\, Son Seals\, Shemekia Copeland\, Levon Helm\, Phoebe Snow\, Dion\, Laura Nyro\, Bob Margolin\, Lowell Fulson\, John Sebastian\, Joe Louis Walker and Al Kooper to name a few. When not producing\, recording or touring with other artists\, \n \nGrowing up in New Jersey\, Jimmy Vivino was\, in many ways\, a typical Italian-American kid. His life centered around family – his parents\, siblings\, and extended relatives – all of whom not only played key roles in his life\, but were vital to his development as a musician. \nOne of three sons born to an amateur-but-ardent trumpet player\, Vivino and his brothers\, Floyd (Uncle Floyd) and Jerry\, grew up in a home where the music of jazz legends like Roy Eldridge\, Louis Armstrong\, Bobby Hackett\, Ella Fitzgerald\, Billie Holliday\, and Dinah Washington permeated the living-room walls\, usually accompanied by their father and his horn\, along with Broadway music and hit pop records of the day. \nDon’t miss this incredible evening of Blues and R&B with Jimmy Vivino and his band.

SUMMARY:Hackensaw Boys 20th Anniversary tour stop at Roy's Hall
DESCRIPTION:For almost two decades\, Hackensaw Boys have plowed the asphalt bringing their raw\, gritty American vernacular sounds to the music halls and streets across the world. Twenty years later\, these roots music shapeshifters continue their burning hot vision of American roots music into a new age\, fueled as much by a rowdy punk spirit as by the traditional masters that first inspired them. Hackensaw Boys have been making audiences holler and dance since way back in 1999. Formed in Charlottesville and now based in Lynchburg\, Virginia\, this hard traveling group has built an international following for their high-energy performances and down-to-earth presentation. \n \nDespite their roots in traditional music\, their homegrown aesthetic (bolstered by the “charismo\,” their calling card percussion instrument handmade from cans and other metal objects) belies their contemporary approach to songcraft and showmanship. Hackensaw Boys’ music today has just as much in common with the straight-ahead sound of the Del McCoury Band as it does with the indie rock of Pavement and the modern folk of the Avett Brothers and Mountain Goats. Their most recent LPs merge an old timey sonic palette with a folk-punk sensibility\, with poignant lyricism\, focused arrangements\, and a deep groove all held together by bluegrass chops. \n \nBefore string bands were a “thing” in popular culture\, there was the Hackensaw Boys. Before The Avett Brothers were selling out arenas\, before Mumford & Sons were becoming the biggest band in music in a given year\, before everybody and their brother was growing a beard and wearing suspenders and playing in jug bands\, the Hackensaw Boys were mixing bluegrass and old time music with a punk attitude\, and reshaping what a modern old school string band could sound like. — Saving Country Music

SUMMARY:Professor Louie & The Crowmatix play the music of THE BAND... and more
DESCRIPTION:Multi-instrumentalist/producer Professor Louie (aka Aaron Hurwitz) is primarily known for his long-standing association with The Band and his influence on the Woodstock\, NY\, music scene during the ’90s. \nThe New York native studied piano and arrangement at such NYC programs as Henry Street Settlement and the Brooklyn Academy of Music\, and performed in the downtown club scene with the roots-based Mighty Gospel Giants of Brooklyn. In the early ’80s\, he was brought into contact with Levon Helm\, Rick Danko\, and Garth Hudson\, who were\, at the time\, resurrecting the Band. After collaborating with Hudson throughout the ’80s in Woodstock\, Louie made the move to the small town. Weekly sessions with a variety of artists\, including his writing partner\, vocalist “Miss Marie” Spinosa\, at Levon Helm’s home studio led to the formation of the Crowmatix. \n \n \nDuring the ’90s\, Louie co-produced and engineered the Band albums Jericho\, High on the Hog\, and Jubilation. He also paired up with Rick Danko for a series of duo concerts and did studio work with groups as diverse as Mercury Rev (Deserter’s Songs)\, Livingston Taylor\, Four Men and a Dog\, and Artie Traum. Louie toured with Danko shortly before the singer/bassist’s death and co-produced and performed extensively on his posthumous album\, Times Like These. Professor “Louie” & the Crowmatix released Over the Edge on Breeze Hill Records in August 2000. Jam followed a year later\, offering a collection of jam sessions by some of the best roots rockers in the underground. A year later\, Flyin’ High offered more of the same.

SUMMARY:"Fireside On The Mountain" The Grateful Dead according to Fireside Collective
DESCRIPTION:Fireside Collective has been on a roll since emerging seven years ago from the fertile roots music scene of Asheville\, North Carolina. In quick order\, the progressive bluegrass group released its debut album\, won the 2016 Band Contest at MerleFest\, earned an International Bluegrass Music Association Momentum Band of the Year nomination and embarked on an ambitious touring schedule that’s earned an enthusiastic reception from traditional bluegrass to wide-ranging\, eclectic music festival audiences alike.  \n \nBlending the characteristic interplay of bluegrass instrumentation and harmonies with strong original material and exuberant energy\, Fireside Collective has drawn on folk\, blues\, funk and a wide variety of bluegrass sounds to create a distinctive body of work that’s all their own \n. \nEach member—Joe Cicero (guitar); Jesse Iaquinto (mandolin); Tommy Maher (resonator guitar) and Carson White (upright bass)— brings a strong\, original voice to his instrument\, and the unique contributions of different lead and harmony vocalists complement the variety in the group’s many original songs. “Depending on where you come from and your experience with folk music\, you may think we’re very traditional\, or on the other hand\, consider us a progressive act\,” says Iaquinto. “We appreciate both ends of the spectrum and may lie on a different end on any given night.” But whether they’re bringing the classic sound of bluegrass or exploring new musical territory\, Fireside Collective delivers a fresh\, energetic approach and a blast of enthusiastic creativity that’s electrifying audiences across the country.

SUMMARY:Kathleen Edwards Trio in Concert with special guest Matt Susich
DESCRIPTION:Canadian singer and songwriter Kathleen Edwards became a star in the Americana community in the 2000s on the basis of her emotionally incisive songs and sweetly smoky voice. Edwards’ lyrics are evocative and direct in their take on relationships and the trials of everyday lives\, and her music\, which varies from quietly contemplative and keenly boisterous to suit her mood\, is an effective match for her material. Edwards’ second album\, 2005’s Back To Me\, was a critical success that revealed her talent to listeners outside Canada\, and 2012’s Voyageur\, which followed a relationship from meeting to breakup\, was a commercial success as well as a hit with her fans. \n \nKathleen Edwards was born in Ottawa\, Ontario\, the daughter of foreign service parents who played piano and guitar in their spare time. At five\, she began to study classical violin\, which continued through her early teens. At that point\, the Edwards family moved overseas. Removed from the influence of mainstream North American pop music\, Edwards delved into her older brother’s collection of Bob Dylan\, Neil Young\, and early Tom Petty records. After high school\, she landed back in Ottawa\, where she sang and played her guitar in local clubs while networking with other musicians in the scene. \n \nIn 1999\, Edwards recorded her debut EP\, Building 55\, and toured throughout Canada to support it\, busking and opening for acts like Hayden and Jane Siberry along the way. A bad breakup led to more songwriting\, much of which took place after Edwards moved out of Ottawa and into rural Quebec. Those songs became the basis of Failer\, her debut full-length\, which she recorded in Ottawa in late 2001. The album was a heartfelt mixture of folk and country\, and drew upon influences like Whiskeytown and Gillian Welch. A major critical buzz began to swirl around her music\, and gigs at the 2002 South by Southwest festival — as well as an opening slot for Richard Buckner — led to a deal with Zoe/Rounder\, which released Failer in January 2003. The album garnered rave reviews\, and Edwards toured extensively in support\, headlining her own club dates and playing arenas in support of Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones. \n \nShe headed back into the studio in 2004 to record her second album\, with guitarist and bandleader Colin Cripps serving as producer. The final product was Back to Me\, which arrived in stores during the spring of 2005 and introduced some pop elements into Edwards’ dusty Americana. It was followed in 2008 by Asking for Flowers. It would be four years before her next album\, Voyageur\, which chronicled a love affair from beginning to end\, appeared in 2012. \nProduced by Justin Vernon of Bon Iver\, Voyageur became Edwards’ biggest commercial success to date\, rising to number 39 on the American Album charts\, and number two in Canada. However\, the stresses of success\, a relentless touring schedule\, a struggle with clinical depression\, and difficult romantic relationships took their toll on Edwards\, and in 2014 she retired from music to open a cafe named Quitters Coffee in Stittsville\, Ontario. She was content living outside of the spotlight when\, in 2018\, country star Maren Morris\, a fan of her work\, contacted her and asked if they could write a song together. Their collaboration\, “Good Woman\,” appeared on Morris’ 2019 album Girl\, and it inspired Edwards to pick up her guitar and become comfortable with music again. After writing a set of fresh songs\, she teamed with producers Ian Fitchuk and Jim Bryson to make an album entirely on her own terms. Her fifth full-length\, Total Freedom\, was released by Dualtone Records in August 2020.
