SUMMARY:Scott Sharrard - Little Feat guitarist and Gregg Allman's musical director in an intimate evening of stories and song
DESCRIPTION:American music courses through Scott Sharrard’s heart and soul. From the farm to the church and the back porch to the roadhouse\, Sharrard makes music that is rooted in the soil. \nAll of the styles that he cherishes — rock & roll\, rhythm & blues\, country\, folk\, gospel\, country\, jazz –whisper in one voice\, like a sweet-talking lover. \nPlaying\, collaborating\, telling stories\, connecting with fans: this is what he calls “my happy place.” \n “I love being a mentor\, a shepherd\, a music director\,” Sharrard says at his studio on Harlem’s West Side. “The concept of community is magical to me. The rest is just noise.” \n“I think of myself as a facilitator\, the way Quincy Jones served every artistic situation. He was intuitively guided by the music and that enabled him to capture each artist’s singular vision.” \nScott Sharrard center stage with Little Feat \n Since 2019\, Sharrard has been the lead singer and guitarist for Little Feat\, preserving the magic of the group’s beloved guiding light\, the late Lowell George\, and reimagining that energy with his own mojo. As a co producer and singer/guitarist/songwriter\, Scott has worked on two Little Feat recordings to date.  Live at The Ryman (2022) was a riveting\, Grammy-nominated PBS special\, with star turns from Eric Church\, Jamey Johnson\, Tommy Emmanuel and Marcus King. and Sam’s Place(2024) received a Grammy nomination for Blues Album of the Year. \n \n Sharrard is also guided by the angels who surround Gregg Allman. Sharrard served as Allman’s music director\, band leader and producer for many years; their partnership culminated in the Grammy-nominated Southern Blood in 2017. “My Only True Friend\,” an indelible song which Sharrard and Allman wrote for the album\, also received a Grammy nomination for Americana Song of the Year. \n But Sharrard and Allman were more than collaborators. They were also confidants and best friends. \n“Gregg’s spirit is always near to me\,” he says.

SUMMARY:Steve Forbert "A True American Treasure" in concert
DESCRIPTION:  \nSteve Forbert is a true American treasure\, a fact underscored by his 21st album\, Daylight Savings Time. Like all his albums of original songs\, it’s suffused with what venerated rock journalist Robert Christgau discerned as his “omnivorously observant” songwriting\, marked by Steve’s gift for finding the deeper meaning and magic within the spectrum of everyday moments\, as well as his abundant melodic and poetic enchantment. \n \n  \nAs Forbert approaches the milestone of his 70th birthday\, Daylight Savings Time contemplates and celebrates the proverbial ‘extra hour of daylight’ that comes with the time change. “Yeah to chirping crickets and to daylight savings time!” he sings on the album’s first single “Sound Existence\,” “The best ain’t yet to come\, but you could still get by just fine.” \nSteve arrived in New York City from his Meridian\, Mississippi hometown in 1976. He slotted seamlessly into the “new folk” revival in such Manhattan clubs as Folk City\, The Bitter End\, and Kenny’s Castaways while taking the stage at CBGB\, ground zero of the burgeoning new wave/punk movement. He also busked on the streets of Greenwich Village and in the elegant confines of Grand Central Station. \nHe quickly won a major label deal with Nemperor/CBS Records and released his heralded debut\, Alive on Arrival\, in 1978. His next album\, Jackrabbit Slim\, released in 1979\, brought wider renown to Forbert with its #11 pop chart hit “Romeo’s Tune.” It provided the stature for his troubadour existence\, which has kept him active ever since as “a striking performer\, very much worth seeing and hearing\,” according to the New York Times.

SUMMARY:"The Librarians" A documentary film to benefit the Warren County library system
DESCRIPTION:A Benefit to support Warren County NJ libraries\n\nIn The Librarians film\, librarians emerge as first responders in the fight for democracy and our First Amendment Rights.\n \n\n\n\n\n\nLibrarians emerge as first responders in the fight for democracy and our First Amendment Rights. As they well know\, controlling the flow of ideas means control over communities.\n\n\n\n\nIn Texas\, the Krause List targets 850 books focused on race and LGBTQia+ stories – triggering sweeping book bans across the U.S. at an unprecedented rate. As tensions escalate\, librarians connect the dots from heated school and library board meetings nationwide to lay bare the underpinnings of extremism fueling the censorship efforts. Despite facing harassment\, threats\, and laws aimed at criminalizing their work – the librarians’ rallying cry for freedom to read is a chilling cautionary tale.

SUMMARY:James Maddock returns to Roy's Hall
DESCRIPTION:A rock & roll lifer\, James Maddock has been carving his unique path since the 1980s\, when the British-born singer/songwriter kicked off his career with a raw\, soulful voice; a storyteller’s sense of narrative; and the ability to blur the lines between folk\, classic pop\, and rock. Backed by his longtime band of NYC-area musicians\, James sets the world to music\, mixing sweeping melodies and rousing choruses with lyrics that shine a bright light on these darker times. \n \nJames Maddock’s status as a fixture on the Folk and Americana scene is confirmed with every listen of any song in his prodigious catalog. Relix Magazine put it this way: “James Maddock possesses the kind of lived-in craggy voice that would sound authoritative if he were singing the sports pages. Fortunately\, he doesn’t need to do that because his compositional skills are a match for his delivery.” \nAfter fronting the Columbia Records band Wood\, whose debut Songs From Stamford Hill was featured prominently on TV shows such as “Dawson’s Creek\,” Maddock moved from England to New York City in 2003. His 2009 album Sunrise On Avenue C won a New York Music Award for Best Americana Album\, while the follow-up Wake Up And Dream ranked among the top albums of 2011 in WFUV’s (NYC) Listener Poll. With the release of Another Life (2013) and The Green (2015) Maddock continued to demonstrate why many consider him to be one of the best singer/songwriters working today. He has performed with Bruce Springsteen\, Willie Nile\, Aaron Comess (Spin Doctors) and David Immergluck (Counting Crows). According to radio legend Vin Scelsa\, Maddock’s “heartbreakingly beautiful and exquisitely crafted” music “touches the soul.” As a songwriter\, James recently had three songs co-written with Mike Scott on the new Waterboys album Modern Blues (which appeared in the Top 50 on the UK Albums Chart)\, a co-write with Gary Barlow (“Actress”) on Barlow’s new album (2X Platinum)\, as well as a cut (“Fragile”) on the Dirt On My Tongue album by emerging UK artist Jo Harman. Songs from Another Life have been featured on NBC’s Parenthood and ABC Family’s Switched at Birth. Maddock is a constant live presence in the U.S. and Europe. \n \nJames Maddock returns with a new album titled “Night Work”\, which features about ten tracks\, mostly with a vibrant rock vibe\, composed in Brooklyn in just three weeks in the fall of 2022. “Night Work” refers precisely to the writing of the songs\, which in the case of the British singer-songwriter based in New York is especially at night. That phase followed months in which Maddock rounded up a band that this time includes friends from both the Big Apple and Londoners. The latter\, in particular\, take us back to Maddock’s past and debuts with the Woods. In fact\, the case meant that the band’s drummer Steve Jackson contacted James right between writing and recording the album\, informing him that he had set up a small studio. Maddock has thus involved not only him\, but also Wood bassist James O’Malley\, creating a record that almost seems to map his musical path.

SUMMARY:Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams ~ An intimate evening with the First Couple of Americana Music
DESCRIPTION:The debut of Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams as a musical duo was decades in the making. Husband and wife\, they have long pursued largely independent creative careers that have taken them around the globe many times. Campbell\, a virtuosic and versatile multi-instrumentalist\, has been a go-to session musician and producer since the 1980s. He later spent eight years backing Bob Dylan on tour and was an integral part of recording 2001’s Love and Theft. Williams\, who moved from rural Tennessee to New York City to pursue acting and musical theater\, found a niche playing roles that complimented her Southern background and powerful\, country-inflected voice. Campbell happened to be the pedal-steel player in a band Williams put together at New York City’s Bottom Line more than 30 years ago—and the rest was history. \n \n“As soon as I saw her\, I knew she was the one\,” says Larry. That epiphany occurred in a Manhattan rehearsal studio. Teresa\, an actress and vocalist not long removed from Peckerwood Point\, TN\, had been pulled into a singing contest. Larry\, the New York City native with a burgeoning reputation for his virtuosity on any instrument with strings\, was brought in to play pedal steel guitar. “For me\, it was love at first note\,” she says. Together they went on to capture a greater prize. \n \nFrom the beginning\, they shared a musical sensibility; Larry courted her with a Louvin Brothers mix tape. The more they played together\, the deeper it grew. Whether it was Larry joining in on the music with Teresa’s family and neighbors under the tree where they were married (“Larry melded perfectly\,” says Teresa)\, or Teresa belting bluegrass songs on the bus with Larry and the rest of Bob Dylan’s band as they traveled between gigs (“It was very fulfilling\,” recalls Larry)\, the couple’s rapport grew richer. “I found a connection I had never experienced before\,” says Larry. When Dylan’s manager\, Jeff Kramer\, suggested that they make hay with this natural duo\, he expressed a thought that had been already brewing in Larry’s head. But Larry wasn’t ready. “I had to start seeing myself as a singer and songwriter before I could take that step.” The couple took another decade\, much spent playing with Levon Helm and his band at his legendary Midnight Rambles in Woodstock\, before Larry and Teresa elevated their rapport to the next level. \n \nAfter leaving Dylan’s band in 2004\, Campbell answered the call from Levon Helm\, drummer and singer with The Band\, to serve as musical director at the Midnight Ramble\,” the intimate  concert series at Helm’s home studio in Woodstock\, New York. At Helm’s invitation\, Williams came on as a regular singer. Campbell also co-produced two Grammy winning albums with Helm—2007’s Dirt Farmer and 2009’s follow-up Electric Dirt. \nAll This Time is the couple’s fourth album since taking that leap\, following Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams (2015)\, Contraband Love (2017)\, and Live at Levon’s (2023). All This Time \, says Larry\, “feels more intuitive to me than the earlier records\, less experimental\, evidence that we’ve grown more aware of who we are and what we have to offer.” What they offer\, evidently\, is an intensely romantic album. Songs like Desert Island Dreams\, Ride With Me\, The Way You Make Me Feel\, and I Love You fairly burst with the joy of love\, while others recognize love’s humbling power. “All I want\, all I need\, is right in front of me\,” testifies one song. “I still tremble at your name\,” says another. \nIt’s not hard to recognize All This Time as a post-Covid album. Larry and Teresa had a hard pandemic. Before Teresa left for remote Tennessee to nurse her father through his last illness\, Larry came down with a double-barreled blast of Covid\, and Teresa was quarantined. Isolated in Woodstock before treatments had been developed\, Larry struggled. “Teresa pulled me through\,” he says. “I held his hand over the phone\,” she offers. Teresa says Larry’s lyrics often help her decipher what’s on his mind\, but it doesn’t always take a codebreaker to recognize the songs on this album as love letters sprouted in a harsh spring. “When you told me that you need me/ After all we’ve been through/ I still think about the love we have to give/ I think about you.”

SUMMARY:The Alison Brown Quintet… pushing the boundaries of folk and bluegrass
DESCRIPTION:Alison Brown doesn’t play the banjo… Alison Brown plays music on the banjo. \nAcoustic instrumental music has never been so beautifully represented as by Alison Brown.  As one of the most multi-faceted minds on today’s roots music scene\, every one of Alison’s endeavors is marked by innovation\, intelligence\, and grace. As a banjo player\, she throws out the textbook when it comes playing the banjo and the result is a sound that blends the rugged drive of bluegrass with the harmonic sensibilities of jazz\, earning vast acclaim and a GRAMMY award in the process. \n \nAlison took an unusual path to becoming an internationally recognized banjoist.  After completing her undergraduate studies at Harvard University and receiving an MBA from UCLA\, she pursued a career in investment banking. But she missed the bluegrass music she’d grown up playing in Southern California so much that when Alison Krauss called looking for a banjo player\, she made the decision to give up her Wall Street career to pursue music.  She toured with Alison Krauss and Union Station\, and Michelle Shocked before forming her own group\, The Alison Brown Quartet\, in 1993. \nSince that time\, Alison and her band have been winning over traditionalists and mainstream music fans alike with her unique style.  They have toured extensively throughout the US and abroad with stops at some of music’s most prestigious venues including The Kennedy Center\, Newport Folk Festival\, Telluride Bluegrass Festival\, MerleFest\, New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival\, Philadelphia Folk Festival\, FreshGrass\, The Cambridge Folk Festival (England)\, Celtic Connections (Scotland)\, Dublin National Concert Hall (Ireland)\, Galway Arts Festival (Ireland) and Verbier Music Festival (Switzerland).  The band has also traveled to Central and South America at the invitation of the US Information Agency and to Japan as Friendship Ambassadors on behalf of the Nashville Mayor’s office to celebrate a new sister city relationship between Kamakura\, Japan and Music City. \n  \n \nAlison has recorded 12 critically-acclaimed solo albums\, received a GRAMMY and multiple GRAMMY- nominations. She has also received the USA Artists Fellowship in Music and a Distinguished Achievement Award from the International Bluegrass Music Association. Alison has been featured on CBS Sunday Morning\, NPR’s All Things Considered and in the pages of the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times among many other publications. \n  \nAlison is also the co-founder of the internationally recognized roots music label Compass Records Group which Billboard Magazine has called “one of the greatest independent labels of the last decade.” Compass Records Group oversees a catalog of nearly 1\,000 releases across multiple label imprints\, including Red House Records\, Green Linnet and Mulligan Records. Alison currently serves on the Board of the Nashville Chapter of the Recording Academy\, on the adjunct faculty of Vanderbilt’s Blair School of Music and as co-chair of the Steve Martin Banjo Prize.
